Whoever is running the show at the University of Oregon is so out of it that they should be fired. Get this, college professors will be hired or fired not on their teaching ability, but on their cultural competency. This is a supposed attempt to increase diversity.
EUGENE, Ore. — In an effort to promote diversity at the University of Oregon, a plan has been developed that would hire, fire and promote professors not just on the quality of their teaching and research, but on their so-called “cultural competency."
Freshmen would take a class on the subject and faculty would be trained in it. The problem is that nowhere in the 22-page diversity draft plan is “cultural competency” defined.
"I can imagine huge amounts of time that should be going to research and teaching being tied up with this sort of thing — and making life extremely unpleasant,” said Christopher Phillips, a University of Oregon professor.
Critics also worry about the cost. The plan calls for 800 diversity-building scholarships and dozens of new staff positions in order to add degree programs in fields like “queer studies” and “disabled studies.”
I swear, college life isn't what it used to be. It's gone from a place a kid goes to get a degree that will enable he or she to get a decent job, to a place that has been hijacked by radical ex-hippies in attempt to indoctrinate the youth of this nation into their strange leftist culture.
For god's sake, "queer studies?" What kind of job is a degree in "queer studies" going to get someone? To me, anyone going to college for a degree like this should immediately drop out and join the work force. In the four years you will waste learning about "queer studies," you would be able to get a job and probably work your way into some sort of management position. By the time all of those "queer studies" majors graduate, you'll be making more money than they will because they wasted 4 years and tens of thousands of dollars on a degree that is about as valuable as being proficient in shitting your pants.
Parents, if your kid is planning on going to college and you are planning on paying for it, make sure that you aren't flushing your money down the toilet and sending your kid off to a left-wing concentration camp. Unfortunately, that's what many of our universities have turned into. It's not about economics, business, law, engineering or the sciences - it's about "queer studies" and cultural sensitivity.
Thank god I'm not college aged anymore. Some of my professors didn't like me 9 or 10 years ago, before the p.c. stormtroopers really seized control. With the way things are today I'd be booted off campus, if not expelled.

I think they left one section off of this - the one that says "total bullshit"
Hmmm... cultural competency. This sounds about on par with how
"collegiality" can be a factor for hiring and tenure. Just another vague
term that can be made to mean almost anything and which is usually just an
excuse to deny you employment because the faculty simply doesn't like you.
and I'm sure it will be used that way too.
Yup, I agree with your politics, but remember this:
